Quadro orario - Progetto Cambridge

 SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Our request to become a Cambridge International School is the final step of a process we have been implementing for years in order to overcome prejudices and to form the citizens of a multicultural and technological society.

Our school places great emphasis on the European dimension of education and has been taking part in several Erasmus+ and PON projects in order to develop an active citizenship and support the European integration processes.

That's why we have given great value to the study of foreign languages, providing pupils with access to English Language certifications, in the belief that communication in other languages is a key competence for all European citizens and helps inclusion and social cohesion.

In line with the objectives of the Europe 2020 Strategy, our school strives to promote the mobility of European citizens, to foster lifelong learning and the acquisition of transversal skills in order to raise our students’ level of education and training and increase competitiveness in the labor market.

 Besides the learning objectives of each sector, our school strives to achieve and /or develop:

- basic skills;

- the languages of the European Union through the use of CLIL methodologies.

- mathematical-logical and scientific skills;

- the strengthening of the local identity and cultural patrimony;

- the improvement of the school didactic methodology;

- the collaboration with other schools and teachers in order to exchange ideas, tips, models;

- the use of technology;

- a solving problem attitude;

- a critical mind;

- social and collaborative skills;

- personal and social responsibility

- learning how to learn.

- sport and physical activities;

- digital skills.

- music and art;

- intercultural education and respect for legality and gender equality;

-environmental sustainability, and preservation of cultural heritage;

- self-understanding and self-promotion of students’ own inclination by activating itineraries of entrepreneurship paths and by planning activities aimed at supporting pupils with disabilities and with special educational needs.

Our school aim is to promote our students' education in a European dimension, facilitating their access to International organizations and Institutions.

In fact, the project not only wants to achieve linguistic upgrading through the study of subjects in English, but aims to integrate the cultural and methodological training provided by the Italian school system with a training based on creative thought and problem solving attitude, typical of the Anglo-Saxon system.

Through a learner centered approach students will be:

- confident in working with information and ideas

- responsible for themselves and others

- reflective as learners, developing their ability to learn

- innovative and well equipped for new challenges

- intellectually and socially engaged.

 We would like to introduce the Cambridge IGCSE program in the LICEO SCIENTIFICO. The course of the Liceo Scientifico is directed to the study of the link between scientific culture and humanistic tradition. It promotes the acquisition of the knowledge of Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences. This branch guides the students to develop the skills necessary to follow the development of scientific and technological research and to identify the interactions between different forms of knowledge, ensuring the mastery of languages, techniques and methodologies, all through laboratory practice.

With the IGCSE upgrading, the traditional timetable will be enriched with English language enhancement. We shall add some extra hours to the traditional weekly timetable with the presence of an English native speaker teacher, expert in the subjects taught, who will support the subject teacher in IGCSE(0970) Biology, IGCSE(0980) Mathematics, IGCSE (0976) Geography and IGCSE(0991) English- second language.

For this course, we will select 20/25 students who already have A2/B1 English Cambridge Level and, given that they will be asked to deal with a wide-ranging program, we will assign them an entry test that might prove they are particularly brilliant and motivated.

In the first year two extra hours of English and one extra hour of Geography will be added to the curricular timetable, in order to allow the students to deepen their knowledge of the English language and reach the level required to study the other subjects in English in the following years.

In the second year they will continue to study English-second language and Geography adding one extra hour of English and two extra hours of Geography, taking the Geography exam in June and the English exam in November.

In the third year they will start the study of two other IGCSE subjects: Biology and Mathematics adding two extra hours of Biology and one extra hour of Mathematics.

In the fourth year they will continue the study of Biology and Mathematics adding two extra hours of Mathematics and 1 extra hour of Biology.

At the end of the fourth year the students are expected to take the Biology exam in June and the Mathematics exam in November.

In the fifth year the pupils will concentrate on the study of the traditional curricular subjects in order to pass the "Esami di maturita" successfully.

The IGCSE subjects will be taught integrating the national curriculum with the Cambridge Syllabus.

 * Curricular subjects held together with a native English speaker expert in the subjects taught

In our school lessons start at 8.15 a.m. and finish at 1.15 or 2.15 p.m. There is a break of ten minutes from 11.10 to 11.20 a.m.

In the first two years our students don't go to school on Saturday morning which is dedicated to optional activities like courses to get the ESOL CAMBRIDGE CERTIFICATES(A2/B1), ECDL and music courses

In the 3rd, 4rd and 5th years the students attend the school from Monday to Saturday while they do the optional activities in the afternoon: ESOL CAMBRIDGE CERTIFICATES courses ( A2/B1/B2/C1) ECDL and other courses.

The extra curricular courses aiming at getting the Cambridge certificate (B1/B2 etc) already present in our school and attended by many students and international projects (ERASMUS, ERASMUS PLUS), will provide the students with the resources necessary to implement the course successfully and to acquire the international mind necessary to cope with the challenges of a continually changing world.

Internships and experiences of job-shadowing abroad and in the nearby area could be an interesting enrichment of the course.

The school will organize specific training courses for the teachers and administrative staff involved in the Cambridge project in order to:

- develop professional skills

- get the B2/C1 certifications

- work collaboratively in professional learning communities

- acquire/improve assessment, methodological and digital skills

- enhance the CLIL methodology.

The school will also establish a network link with other Cambridge International schools to support and enhance the Cambridge Institute project, to ensure ongoing sharing of teaching practices, ideas and training materials.

The teachers involved in the Cambridge course will attend the courses organized by the Cambridge International School, in order to acquire the skills necessary to perform their role successfully.
